Dragon's Den Pitch

Doing this task helped me understand the market I will be aiming my magazine towards as well as giving me ideas on what pictures I will be using and what I will be featuring in my magazine.
I later went on to change my style of magazine from rock to drum and bass. I used the concepts from this task to help further my understanding of different styles I could use but had to change several as there was no overlap of genres.

Thinking of a concept

Doing this task helped me create a concept for my magazine, it gave me an area to compile all of my thoughts and ideas for the magazine. It was helpful because once I had come up with one idea then I could just use that one to come up with more ideas and eventually I had a good idea of what I want to do for the magazine.
I later went on to change my ideas from rock to that of drum and bass but used the concepts and ideas I had compiled to my advantage and used those ideas to stem more ideas but instead of into rock I thought more about how to turn these initial ideas into a drum and bass magazine.

Picture Analysis

This task taught me about which shots are characteristic of my magazine genre and how to implement them effectively. It taught me about when it is the correct time to use one shot over the other and as such I have improved my knowledge of shot angles, when to use them and how to use them.

Alignment Task

This task helped me develop ideas about what a template of a front cover, contents page, double page spread looks like and how to create one myself.

Content and double page spread analysis

This task taught me a lot about what is common in each magazine, what the constants are within magazines which will allow me to better construct my own magazine later on. I learned a lot about the necessities for certain pages and what made certain contents pages or double page spreads stand out from the others, this will be key in making my own design original and interesting.

Audience research survey

The results of my survey showed a number of things such as the lack of regular purchase of music magazines, most responses were rarely to never showing the market is not very large at least within people aged 18-34 as these were the only age range to respond to my survey. The type of music listened to by my respondents came up generally as pop, chart music, this shows me that it is important for the music represented in my magazine must be popular and have recognition within the charts. I found the price my respondents were willing to pay averaged around £5 which I believe is a fair price for me to sell my magazine at. I found that the content of the magazine heavily outweighed the worth of the presentation and as such I will focus more on the content aspects of my magazine rather than the aesthetics. I found that people find interviews very interesting and are important for the magazine to be successful as people like to learn about the artists. It was apparent that people would read a music magazine not based solely on their favorite type of music if the magazine was presented in such a way as to draw their attention.
